The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has assured students that all updated textbooks will be released soon. NCERT has issued a clarification regarding the issue of textbook shortages. The Council stated it has been assured that there will be no further disruptions in the supply of new textbooks, whether through its vendor network, online platforms, or Strategic Distribution Centers (SDCs).
NCERT stated that the distribution system is being strengthened on a large scale to ensure the adequate availability of new textbooks—prepared in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020—across the country.
According to NCERT, the new books are being supplied through its vendor network, its own sales outlets, online sales portals, various e-commerce platforms, and Strategic Distribution Centers (SDCs) established in collaboration with the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC).
**90 Lakh Class 9 Books Made Available**
NCERT informed that the publication of books under the new curriculum is being carried out in a phased manner. This year, more than 90 lakh textbooks covering nine subjects for Class 9 have been published and made available nationwide.
Except the Social Science book, all other books have reached the students. The Social Science book is also nearly ready for publication and will be available soon.
NCERT acknowledged that temporary and localized shortages in book supplies might occur in some areas due to the new curriculum. However, the Council assured that the situation is being constantly monitored and supplies are being increased to meet demand, ensuring students face no inconvenience.
**Delay Due to New Curriculum**
NCERT stated that the delay occurred because "a new curriculum based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been introduced."
The Council also noted that "books for different stages are being published in a phased manner." The Council stated that while this process might cause temporary disruptions in some areas, efforts are underway to address any supply shortages as quickly as possible.
The issue of textbook shortages had sparked concern among parents, students, and schools across several states, with many reporting difficulties. The Council reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every student receives quality learning resources on time under the new education framework.
